September: Our Month of Harvesting Souls and Fulfilling the Great Commission
2 Peter 1:5–9
Beloved, Jesus died and rose so we could share His divine nature. Now Peter urges us: do not stay stagnant. Saving faith is the starting point, but we must diligently grow inward so our character shines and souls are drawn to Christ. In a world where families wound each other, churches grow cold, and communities chase self, inward growth produces outward harvest. Let us rise and add!
1. Giving All Diligence
“Giving all diligence, add to your faith…” (σπουδή—earnest zeal, eager haste). Bring every effort beside your faith.
Supporting Scriptures: Hebrews 11:6; 2 Timothy 2:15. Jesus poured out His life fully; we must respond with wholehearted zeal.
Life Application: In busy homes and distracted churches, refuse spiritual laziness. Make growth your daily priority.
Repetition: Give all diligence—grow and go harvest.
2. Growing in Virtue and Knowledge
Add to faith virtue (ἀρετή—moral excellence, heroic goodness), and to virtue knowledge (γνῶσις—practical insight).
Supporting Scriptures: Philippians 4:8; Colossians 1:9–10. Christ’s excellence on the cross calls us to live excellently and know Him deeply.
Life Application: Let moral courage and true knowledge reshape how you speak to spouse, children, and neighbors.
Repetition: Grow in virtue and knowledge—shine for souls.
3. Guarding with Temperance and Patience
Add temperance (ἐγκράτεια—self-control) and patience (ὑπομονή—enduring steadfastness).
Supporting Scriptures: Galatians 5:22–23; James 1:3–4. Jesus controlled Himself even unto death; He endured the cross for us.
Life Application: In a reactive world of quick tempers and broken relationships, practice self-control and patient love.
Repetition: Guard with temperance and patience—become a steady witness.
4. Gaining Godliness and Brotherly Kindness
Add godliness (εὐσέβεια—reverent devotion) and brotherly kindness (φιλαδελφία—warm family affection).
Supporting Scriptures: 1 Timothy 4:7–8; 1 Peter 1:22. Christ’s godly life and sacrificial love for the brethren model our path.
Life Application: Treat church family and community with tender care that reflects heaven.
Repetition: Gain godliness and brotherly kindness—draw others to Jesus.
5. Glorifying with Charity
Crown it all with charity (ἀγάπη—selfless, divine love). If these abound, you will never be barren or unfruitful; lacking them leaves one blind and forgetful of cleansing.
Supporting Scriptures: 1 Corinthians 13:13; John 13:34–35. Jesus loved us to the end on the cross; His love now lives through us.
Life Application: Let overflowing love heal families, unite churches, and win the lost.
Repetition: Glorify with charity—abound and never be barren.
Beloved, Jesus paid the full price so we could grow fully into His likeness. This September, add these qualities with all diligence. Inward growth produces outward harvest. Build strong families, strengthen the church, impact communities, and fulfill the Great Commission. The fields are white. Grow deep—and reap wide.
