September: Our Month of Harvesting Souls and Fulfilling the Great Commission
Topic: Everything We Need—Participating in Christ’s Divine Nature Through Precious Promises
2 Peter 1:1–4
Beloved, the apostle who once walked on water and later denied his Lord now writes as a transformed man. Jesus called Peter from nets and family business into radical discipleship. That same Jesus willingly went to the cross, shedding His blood so that ordinary people like us could receive “like precious faith” and become partakers of the divine nature. In a world where families fracture under selfishness, churches split over pride, communities harden in isolation, and nations chase fleeting desires, these four verses shine as hope.
1. Peter the Apostle of Christ vs 1
Simon Peter introduces himself as “a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ” (δοῦλος καὶ ἀπόστολος—bond-servant and one sent forth with authority). He writes to those who have obtained isotimon pistin—faith of equal value and honor—with the apostles, through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ.
Supporting Scriptures: Acts 4:13 (uneducated men made bold by being with Jesus); 1 Peter 1:18–19 (redeemed by the precious blood of Christ).
Jesus left glory, endured the cross, and rose again so that fishermen and families today receive the same saving faith.
Life application: In homes strained by busyness or conflict, remember your faith is not second-class.
Repetition: You share the same precious faith. Yield afresh to the One who called you.
2. Prayer of Apostle Peter vs 2
“Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord” (ἐπίγνωσις—full, experiential, intimate knowledge). Peter prays not for mere information but for multiplied charis (unmerited favor) and eirēnē (wholeness, the Hebrew shalom of complete well-being).
Supporting Scriptures: John 17:3 (eternal life is knowing the Father and Jesus Christ); Philippians 4:7 (peace that guards hearts and minds in Christ Jesus).
Christ’s willingness to die opened the way for this knowledge. In churches marked by criticism and communities aching with loneliness, pursue deeper knowing of Jesus.
Life application: Begin each day asking for multiplied grace and peace through knowing Him.
Repetition: Knowledge of Christ multiplies peace.
3. Promises of Great Value vs 3-4
His divine power (θείας δυνάμεως) has granted us everything pertaining to life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence (ἀρετή—moral virtue). By these He has given us “precious and very great promises” (timia kai megista epangelmata—valuable and magnificent promises).
Supporting Scriptures: 2 Corinthians 1:20 (all the promises of God are Yes in Christ); Romans 8:32 (He who did not spare His own Son will freely give us all things).
Jesus laid down His life so every resource for godly living is already ours.
In a culture driven by lust and comparison that poisons families and neighborhoods, these promises equip us to live differently.
Life application: Claim what has already been granted—stop striving in your own strength.
Repetition: Everything we need has already been given.
4. Partakers of the Divine Nature vs 4
Through these promises we become koinōnoi theias physeōs—sharers and partners in the divine nature—having escaped the corruption (φθορά—decay) that is in the world through lust (ἐπιθυμία—selfish desire).
Supporting Scriptures: 1 John 3:2 (we shall be like Him); Galatians 2:20 (Christ lives in me).
The Cross purchased our escape and our participation. Where families wound, churches grow cold, and the world celebrates corruption, we are invited into Christ’s own character—love, purity, and self-giving.
Life application: Daily escape lust’s pull by holding fast to the promises and letting Christ’s nature reshape how you treat spouse, children, fellow believers, and neighbors.
Repetition: We are partakers of the divine nature.
Jesus paid the ultimate price so that ordinary people worldwide might receive equal faith, multiplied peace, all things for godliness, and a share in His very nature. Live it today—build families, strengthen churches, and shine in communities as living proof that the promises are true. Amen.
