The Fragility of Life

By Bishop Samson Amajene

Today's Thoughts — Obedience Series

Text: James 4:14b (KJV)

Topic: The Fragility of Life

"For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away." — James 4:14b (KJV)

Today, I wish to reflect on a profound question that each of us should ponder: What is the essence of our existence? Understanding the meaning of life is crucial, as it directly influences how we value and approach it. Life is a precious gift from God, initially bestowed upon us at conception, transforming us into living beings. True life is found in knowing God, who is the author of Zoe-life, as stated in John 17:3. Until we completely surrender our lives to Christ, we may find that our existence lacks true purpose and significance.

It is imperative to recognize that life is more valuable than all the riches of this world combined, as emphasized in Mark 8:36. However, despite this immeasurable worth, life remains inherently fragile, vulnerable, and fleeting — much like vapor. The most meaningful approach to our lives is to consecrate them to the service of God and to care for them while we have the opportunity.

While Scripture indicates that we may expect to live around eighty years, many individuals barely reach even half of that span. Sin, sickness, and satanic influences are factors that can abruptly end our lives. Therefore, it is essential for us to repent, accept Christ as our Lord and personal Savior, forgive those who have wronged us, and actively assist others in every way we can — securing our eternal place in His Kingdom.

Let us remember: Your life is not your own. It belongs to God, and you will ultimately be called to account for how you have lived it on the last day.

"Lord, help me to number my days and apply my heart to wisdom. May I consecrate every moment of my life to Your service and glory, in Jesus' name. Amen."
