Topic: The Defining of Life

"But what about you? Who do you say I am?" Simon Peter answered, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God." Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven." — Matthew 16:15–17 (NIV)

Bishop Samson Amajene shared a profound reflection on this pivotal moment in Scripture. The Bishop emphasized that life encompasses various definitions, as demonstrated in this passage. Throughout history, many individuals have addressed the Lord in different ways — yet this moment marked an important opportunity for the disciples to declare their understanding of the Messiah. Apostle Peter, who was destined to lead the Church and pen the first and second epistles, was blessed by God to reveal the mystery of the incarnate Christ to the world.

He urged the congregation to recognize that without divine revelation of the spiritual essence of those close to us — be it our parents, spouses, siblings, friends, or coworkers — we might not fully appreciate their true worth. Too often, we find ourselves pursuing answers about whom to marry, what businesses to engage in, or where to live without first seeking the Lord's guidance.

Bishop Amajene encouraged everyone to approach God with their burdens, reminding us that Jesus is always close and available to reveal His truth. When that revelation occurs, he stressed the importance of embracing it and pursuing it with conviction — resisting any influences that might lead us astray.

"Life is a revelation. If God had not revealed the true nature of Christ to Apostle Peter, he would not have recognized his ultimate purpose."

He called for earnest prayer, asking God to unveil His will and intentions for our lives — highlighting that this is essential for avoiding failure and navigating life's challenges. The Bishop concluded by reminding us not to take God's guidance for granted.

"Lord, reveal Your will and intentions for my life. Open my eyes to see what You see, and give me the courage to pursue it with conviction, in Jesus' name. Amen."
