The Absence of Double Grace

1. The Call to Hearken — Deuteronomy 28:1a

"And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God…"

Respond quickly: the proof that you have heard God is that your steps change direction. When you make hearing God a priority, grace will locate you.

2. The Diligence of Obedience — Deuteronomy 28:1b

"…to observe and to do all His commandments…"

Expository Explanation: Grace is not an excuse for laziness; it is empowerment for diligence. The word observe means to give careful attention, and do means to act promptly. 4. The Lifting Power of Grace — Deuteronomy 28:1d

"…that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth."

Expository Explanation: Grace promotes. Grace elevates. Grace distinguishes. Promotion is not by qualification but by grace. God's grace lifts the obedient from obscurity to visibility. When grace is absent, demotion follows. When grace is present, elevation is inevitable. Grace is the invisible hand that lifts a man beyond his natural ability. In the kingdom, promotion is not achieved — it is received. Grace lifts where effort fails. Grace opens doors that credentials cannot. Grace places you where labour cannot.

5. The Overflow of Blessings — Deuteronomy 28:2a

"And all these blessings shall come on thee…"

The phrase "shall come on thee" implies divine initiative — blessings locate the obedient without struggle. Grace makes you a magnet for divine favour. You don't chase blessings; blessings chase you. 6. The Overtaking Blessing — Deuteronomy 28:2b

"…and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God."

Expository Explanation: Grace moves faster than effort. It overtakes human limitation and brings divine acceleration. When grace is doubled, blessings overtake you before you even finish praying. Grace is divine speed — it collapses time and compresses process. What took others years will take you months when grace is active. When grace is absent, you struggle to catch up; when grace is present, you leap ahead. Grace is not just favour; it is divine momentum. It overtakes delay, surpasses limitation, and outruns opposition.

7. The Voice of the Lord — Deuteronomy 28:15a

"But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God…"

Expository Explanation: The absence of grace begins with ignoring God's voice. Disobedience deafens the soul. When men stop listening to God, they start listening to confusion. The voice of God is the compass of grace; without it, life becomes directionless. The most dangerous silence is not when God stops speaking — it is when man stops listening. The absence of grace opens the door for frustration, stagnation, and defeat. Curses are not random punishments; they are the natural consequence of disconnection from grace. Grace shields; when it departs, life becomes exposed. Without grace, effort turns to emptiness. Without grace, labour becomes loss. Without grace, progress becomes pain. Grace is the covering that keeps curses away.

10. The Restoration Through Christ — Implied Fulfilment

"For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ." — John 1:17

Expository Explanation: Jesus Christ is the embodiment of obedience. Through His perfect submission, we receive double grace — grace for salvation and grace for sanctification. Where Israel failed, Christ succeeded. His obedience restored the grace humanity lost through sin. Grace is not a doctrine; it is a Person — Jesus Christ. Through Christ, we receive grace to live above sin, grace to walk in obedience, and grace to fulfil destiny. His cross cancelled the curse, His resurrection released grace, and His Spirit sustains it.
