Topic: Receive Baptism in and Gifts of the Holy Spirit

As we delve into the nature of the Holy Spirit, it is essential to recognize that He is not merely an abstract force or influence. Instead, He is a divine Person with distinct personality traits. Understanding these traits is crucial for deepening our relationship with Him and appreciating His vital role in our spiritual journey.

The Holy Spirit is not merely a power or influence — He possesses feelings and personal attributes. For instance, we are advised not to "grieve" the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:30), and Ananias and Sapphira "lied against the Holy Spirit" (Acts 5:3–4). Unlike an impersonal force, the Holy Spirit can experience these emotions, highlighting His personal nature.

• 1. He can feel (Ephesians 4:30).
• 2. He can comfort (Acts 9:31).
• 3. He can think (Romans 8:6).
• 4. He can speak (Acts 13:2).
• 5. He can pray (Romans 8:26).
• 6. He can teach (John 14:26).
• 7. He can exercise His will (1 Corinthians 12:11).
• 8. He can forbid (Acts 16:6).
• 9. He can work miracles (Acts 19:6).

d. He Is Not Impersonal

These attributes are expressions of personality, which an impersonal power does not possess. Some may perceive Him as merely a force due to symbolic names ascribed to Him in the Scriptures — such as Rain, Oil, Fire, and Clothing. These symbols represent the various ministries He performs, yet He is much greater than the sum of these ministries.

He is the "other" Comforter who has taken the place of Jesus (John 14:16). This period in history is known as the Time of the Latter Rain (Zechariah 10:1), marking the greatest activity of the Spirit that the Church has ever experienced. Therefore, it is essential to deepen our understanding of the Holy Spirit to fully engage with His work in our lives.

Life Application: Embrace this era of the Holy Spirit by actively seeking His presence in your life. Engage in regular prayer, study the Word, and participate in community worship to experience His transformative power.
