Issachar 2024 — Theme: What Time Is This?

1. Historical Background of Issachar

Issachar was one of the twelve tribes of Israel, a descendant from Jacob's son Issachar. The name Issachar means "Reward" or "Wages." They were mentioned throughout the Bible for the significant role they played in contributing to the growth and development of the nation of Israel. They were primarily located in the northern part of the land of Canaan — Genesis 30:14–18.

During the time of Moses, when the Israelites were in the wilderness, the tribe of Issachar was counted among the other tribes. They were part of the assembly of Israel and had a role in the journey to the Promised Land — Numbers 1:28–29.

During the time of the judges, the tribe of Issachar contributed to the military efforts of Israel. They fought alongside other tribes in battles against their enemies, defending the land and ensuring the safety of their fellow Israelites — Judges 5:15.

They were known for their wisdom and understanding of the times, which made them valuable advisers and strategists — 1 Chronicles 12:32.

In the time of King David, the tribe of Issachar was known for their loyalty and support. They were among the tribes that recognised David's kingship and joined him in Hebron, contributing to the establishment of a united kingdom of Israel — 1 Chronicles 12:38.

2. Introduction

Walking in tandem with God's preordained times and seasons in your life is crucial and central to what the Lord will do for you. When you fail to understand what your times and seasons are, you will surely suffer untold hardships because you allow people and circumstances to lead you into error.

Knowing your time and season is everything in life — you should understand it, and whatever you must do to understand it should be done. Why do we fail to understand this principle spiritually, yet know it physically, even though we ironically say the spiritual controls the physical without truly knowing the implications of what we are saying?

May God forgive us for our lack of knowledge and understanding. Take a look at the clock in the natural world — we know what time it is, and we plan our daily, monthly, or yearly activities accordingly. But when it comes to knowing what time it is spiritually, we fail to understand, which is why so many of us are going through pain for our lack of patience.

Nothing is more important than knowing your time spiritually. This is why a lot of people go to the prophets, because they presume the prophets know — and there is nothing wrong with that — but you should understand that not all prophets are gifted like the children of Issachar in understanding the time and season.

3. The Issachar Generation Today

The qualities and contributions of the tribe of Issachar can serve as an inspiration and a lesson for the Church today. Here are four reasons why we need an Issachar generation in the Church:

By being aware of the times, providing wisdom and counsel, offering loyalty and support, and engaging in creative problem-solving, individuals can contribute to the growth, impact, and effectiveness of the Church in fulfilling its mission.
