"And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment." — Luke 7:37–38 (KJV)

Bishop Samson Amajene spoke about Mary and her alabaster box of gratitude. Despite being known as a sinner in the city, Mary brought an alabaster box of ointment when she learned that Jesus was dining at the Pharisee's house. She stood behind Jesus, weeping, and began to wash His feet with her tears — wiping them with her hair, kissing His feet, and anointing them with the ointment.

He described how Mary took an alabaster jar filled with a precious perfume of spikenard and anointed Jesus' feet, symbolizing her offering of her very best to a worthy Savior — even before His death. Bishop Amajene emphasized the significance of giving God our best and all, reflecting on how Mary's actions showcased her deep faith in Jesus.

Reflecting on the story, Bishop Samson posed an implicit question: What have you done for the Lord in gratitude for His blessings? He pointed to Psalm 103:1–3, which highlights God's goodness in removing the burden of sin — a blessing that demands a response of wholehearted worship and thanksgiving.

Furthermore, he elaborated on how Mary's actions demonstrated humility and contrition. She modestly washed Jesus' feet with her tears, expressing her reverence through kissing His feet and anointing them. Bishop Amajene stressed the importance of a repentant heart for believers, acknowledging that true penitents have a profound love for the Lord Jesus — as described in Ezekiel 36:25–26, where God promises to give His people a new heart and a new spirit.

Lord, like Mary, may we bring You our very best — not out of obligation, but out of overflowing love and gratitude for all You have done. Amen.
