Topic: How to Be Humble

"Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time." — 1 Peter 5:6 (KJV)

The biblical definition of humility is believing what God says about you over anyone else's viewpoint, including your own opinion about yourself. Humility mandates you to accept who you are in Christ over who you are in the flesh. To be biblically humble is to be so free of concern for your ego that you unreservedly elevate those around you above yourself.

Beloved, it is your responsibility to humble yourself before God and man — nobody will do it for you. Be decisive about honoring and appreciating the work of others in their own right. Be willing to take a low place, because sometimes it is not the position that truly counts but your performance. This is the point many people fail to realize, so they keep fighting their way through to obtain a position.

When you humble yourself, be sure of one thing: you will be exalted beyond your wildest imagination. Humility should be the basis for service — you are ready to stoop low and take a humble spot because all you want is to do your work and nothing more. You are not competing with anyone. When you are humble, you do not arrogate to yourself what does not rightfully belong to you, because your motive for service is to glorify God and not self.

The only pitfall in humility is when people take undue advantage of you because they perceive you as someone who does not like conflict. When you are humble, you do not display pride and haughtiness to attract the attention of others. Humility will caution you not to exalt yourself above others, because doing so will put you at variance with God, who is ready to resist the proud.

Heavenly Father, as it is natural for You to oppose anyone with a proud look, please help me to make a deliberate effort in humbling myself before You and others, in Jesus' name. Amen.
