Scripture Focus: Esther 3:1–15

Beloved in Christ,

Good morning! I greet you warmly in the powerful name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. As we blossom in mission this March, the book of Esther reminds us that God is always at work — even when His name is not spoken and circumstances look dark.

In Esther 3:1–15, we see a powerful promotion, a courageous refusal, and a wicked plot. Yet through it all, God's providence shines, preparing the way for deliverance.

After these events, King Ahasuerus promoted Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, advanced him, and set his seat above all the princes. All the king's servants at the gate bowed and reverenced Haman as commanded. But Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence. When asked why, Mordecai made it known he was a Jew. Day after day they spoke to him, but he stood firm. Haman, filled with fury, disdained to touch only Mordecai and instead plotted to destroy all the Jews throughout the kingdom. He cast lots (Pur), convinced the king, and a decree went out to annihilate the Jews on a single day — young and old, women and children.

The city of Susa was thrown into confusion, while the king and Haman sat down to drink.

Yet this is not the end of the story! God had already placed Queen Esther in the palace "for such a time as this." Her bravery and faith in God's providence would lead her to risk her life to save her people, highlighting the beauty of courage and divine timing.

How Jesus Christ Is Featured in This Story

The book of Esther beautifully points us to Jesus. Esther risked her life to intercede and save her people from destruction — Jesus gave His life on the cross to intercede for us and deliver us from sin and eternal death. Mordecai's faithful stand foreshadows Christ's perfect obedience to the Father. Haman's defeated plot reminds us that the enemy's greatest schemes were crushed at Calvary.

Through Jesus, our ultimate Deliverer, we have victory, hope, and the assurance that God's hidden providence is always working for our good and His glory.

Life Application Points for Today's World

Repeat these daily to drive the message home:

• "God is in control even when evil seems promoted. I will trust His providence."
• "My first allegiance is to Jesus Christ. I will stand faithfully, even when it costs me."
• "I am positioned for such a time as this. Courage blossoms as I obey God's timing."

In today's world, we see pressure in families to compromise convictions, division and fear in churches, and injustice or favouritism in communities. People bow to popularity, trends, or powerful personalities instead of standing for truth. Yet like Mordecai, we are called to honour where possible without betraying our faith.

Like Esther, we are invited to intercede boldly in prayer and action. Let your life blossom in mission by speaking truth in love, refusing to bow to what contradicts God's Word, and trusting that Jesus has already won the ultimate victory.

Beloved, whatever opposition or confusion you face this week — whether in your home, workplace, or church — remember Esther's story. God's providence never sleeps. Courage is possible through faith. Jesus is our perfect Intercessor and Deliverer. Blossom boldly in your mission for Christ!

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for the powerful lessons from Esther 3. Strengthen our faith like Mordecai's, give us courage like Esther's, and help us trust Your perfect providence. May we stand for You in our families, churches, and communities, knowing Jesus has secured our deliverance. In Jesus' mighty name, Amen.
