Esther's Courage – Standing Brave in God's Timing

March: Our Month of "Blossoming in Mission"

Text: Esther 1:1–22
My name is Samson Amajene, a servant of Christ, from Grace Gospel Church
Beloved family, Esther 1:1–22 opens in the palace of King Ahasuerus, who ruled 127 provinces from his throne in Susa. He hosted a 180-day feast to display the riches and glory of his kingdom. Queen Vashti also hosted the women, and on the seventh day, the king summoned her to appear before his guests. She refused.
On the surface, it looks like a royal dispute, but it reveals God's setup for a divine mission that will unfold in the coming chapters. Here are five brief, deeply rooted points for us today:
1. God Is on the Throne Above Every Throne
Just as Ahasuerus reigned over 127 provinces, our heavenly Father reigns over heaven, earth, and under the earth — from everlasting to everlasting. No human decision, no family tension, no church conflict happens outside His sovereignty.
Life Application: When situations feel out of control, rest in the truth that God is still reigning, and He is in control.
2. Seasons of Celebration Reveal God's Generosity
The king's 180-day feast showed his wealth and his desire to bless his people. If an earthly king is that generous, how much more is our Lord, who owns everything?
Life Application: Let's celebrate God's goodness in our homes and churches, and share that generosity with neighbors. The Lord is good, all the time — and all the time, God is good.
3. Courage Begins with Conviction
Queen Vashti's refusal was an act of personal conviction — she would not be paraded. While the story later calls for wisdom in how we express conviction, it reminds us that integrity matters.
Life Application: In family, church, and community, stand for what honors God, even when it costs you popularity.
4. God Uses "Interruptions" for His Purpose
Vashti's absence created space for Esther's emergence. What looks like a disruption is often God opening a door for someone to step into a mission.
Life Application: When plans change, ask, "Lord, what door are You opening through this?"
5. Our Mission Blossoms in Humble Obedience
The chapter closes with the king seeking a new queen — setting the stage for Esther's courageous obedience that would save her people.
Life Application: Be ready to say "yes" when God calls you to speak up, serve, or step forward in your circle.
Bringing It Home
Today, in families, treat one another with dignity rather than using people for display. In church, honor God's order while respecting each person's worth. In the community, be the voice that protects the vulnerable.
May this month be your season of blossoming in mission — rooted in God's throne, nourished by His generosity, and expressed through courage and obedience.
