Esther's Courage – From Destruction to Divine Reversal

By Bishop Samson Amajene

April: Our Month of "Celebrating Our Victory through Jesus Christ"

Topic: Esther's Courage – From Destruction to Divine Reversal

Sub-topic: Celebrating Victory When God Turns the Enemy's Plans for Our Good

Scripture Focus: Esther 8:1–17

Beloved in Christ, good morning! I am Bishop Samson Amajene, a servant of the Lord Jesus Christ from Grace Gospel Church. Today, as we continue in our month of celebrating victory through Jesus Christ, we turn to the powerful story in Esther 8:1–17.

Here we witness a breathtaking divine reversal. Haman, the vicious enemy of God's people, has been defeated and hanged on the very gallows he built for Mordecai. Now the king gives Queen Esther the entire house of Haman. He removes his signet ring from Haman and places it on Mordecai's hand, granting him authority. Esther falls before the king, weeping and pleading with tears for her people's lives. Though the first evil decree cannot be revoked by Persian law, the king empowers Esther and Mordecai to write a new decree that completely counters the enemy's plot — allowing the Jews to defend themselves and live in peace.

What was meant for evil, God turned for good. Joy replaced mourning. Light replaced darkness. The city of Susa shouted and rejoiced, and many people from other nations joined the Jews because "the fear of the Jews fell upon them." This is the God we serve — He specialises in turning tables, reversing decrees, and giving His people victory!

Five Expository Points with Integrated Life Applications, Repetition Points, and Supporting Scriptures

1. Divine Inheritance After the Enemy's Defeat

The king gave Esther the house of Haman and transferred the signet ring of authority to Mordecai. When God deals with your adversary, He doesn't leave you empty-handed — He causes you to inherit what once belonged to the enemy. Your loss becomes your promotion in Christ.

Scripture: Genesis 50:20 — "You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives." And Job 42:10 — "After Job had prayed for his friends, the Lord restored his fortunes and gave him twice as much as he had before."

In today's world, where family members, church brethren, or community leaders sometimes plot or speak against one another out of jealousy or fear, remember that after the defeat of every "Haman" in your life, God will cause you to inherit blessings and positions you never expected. Just as Jesus willingly died on the cross to defeat the ultimate enemy for our salvation, trust Him to turn every opposition into promotion.

God reverses the plans of the enemy — hold on! Your courage and faith will release divine reversal — step out!

2. Passionate Intercession That Moves Heaven

Esther approached the king with tears and strong pleading, making a heartfelt case for her people. In the same way, Jesus Christ is at the right hand of the Father, ever living to make intercession for you. Bring strong reasons before the Lord in prayer — He hears the cries of His children.

Scripture: Romans 8:34 — "Christ Jesus is the one who died — more than that, who was raised — who is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us." And Hebrews 7:25 — "Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them."

In families torn by conflict, churches facing internal division, communities gripped by injustice, and a world filled with hatred and indifference, rise up like Esther and intercede passionately. Jesus, who gave His life for the salvation of souls, is interceding for you right now — use your voice in prayer to plead for your loved ones, your church, and your nation.

Jesus is interceding for you right now — trust Him! There is power in the name of Jesus Christ — use it!

3. God's Power to Reverse Irrevocable Evil Decrees

Even though Haman's decree of destruction could not be cancelled, God inspired a counter-decree that rendered it powerless. No plan of the enemy is too far gone for our God. He can reverse every curse, every plot, and every written accusation against your life, family, or destiny.

Scripture: Deuteronomy 23:5 — "However, the Lord your God would not listen to Balaam but turned the curse into a blessing for you, because the Lord your God loves you." And Romans 8:28 — "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."

When people in your family, church, or community speak destructive words or spread harmful plans that seem impossible to undo, stand firm. Jesus Christ faced death itself and reversed its power through His resurrection, proving that God can change every evil decree. Speak God's Word boldly over your situation today.

God reverses the plans of the enemy — hold on! Joy is coming because victory has been won — celebrate it!

4. Authority in the Name That Changes Everything

Mordecai, now clothed in royal robes with a crown and proclamation going out, walked in new authority. Beloved, Jesus has given us the unqualified use of His name. Whatever the enemy has decreed over your life, you can counter it with the authority in the name of Jesus Christ — there is power in that name!

Scripture: Matthew 28:18 — "Then Jesus came to them and said, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.'" And Luke 10:19 — "I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you."

In a world where people treat each other with cruelty, betrayal, or manipulation — in families, churches, workplaces, and nations — exercise the authority Christ has given you. Just as Jesus died and rose again to give us victory over sin, sickness, poverty, Satan, and death, use His name to cancel every negative word or plan spoken against you and declare peace and restoration.

There is power in the name of Jesus Christ — use it! Your courage and faith will release divine reversal — step out!

5. Joy and Celebration Because Victory Has Come

The Jews had light, joy, gladness, and honour. Many others turned to the God of Israel. When God reverses the enemy's plans, joy comes in the morning. Hold on to His unfailing promises — your mourning will turn to dancing, and your sorrow to shouts of victory.

Scripture: Psalm 30:5 — "For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favour lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning." And Genesis 50:20 — "You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good…"

Amid the pain of broken relationships in families, division in churches, conflict in communities, and global turmoil, choose to celebrate every small and big victory. Jesus Christ endured the cross for the joy set before Him so that we could experience eternal victory and salvation — let His example fill you with hope and cause you to rejoice even before the full manifestation.

Joy is coming because victory has been won — celebrate it! God reverses the plans of the enemy — hold on!

Dear friend, no matter what "Haman" — sickness, debt, opposition, fear, or failure — has plotted against you, today is your day of reversal. The same God who honoured Esther and Mordecai is fighting for you. Hold tightly to His Word. Never despise the authority written in Scripture.

Your enemy is defeated, and greater honour is coming your way. Walk in courage today. Pray with passion. Declare victory in Jesus' name. Light, joy, gladness, and honour belong to you in this month of celebrating our victory through Jesus Christ!

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for the story of Esther. Reverse every evil plan against Your children today. Give us courage like Esther, authority like Mordecai, and intercession like Jesus. Turn our mourning into dancing, and let joy fill our hearts. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
