Topic: Can It Still Happen Today?

"Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake."

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father."

"And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it." — John 14:11–14 (KJV)

As we reflect on today's scripture, we are reminded of the profound connection between our faith and the works we perform in ministry. The two primary evidences of our calling as servants of the Lord are the faith we demonstrate in Christ and the tangible works we accomplish in His name. It is essential that our lives reflect the undeniable proof of His calling upon us through our actions.

To minister with power, we must first cultivate a deep faith in the living God, allowing His grace to flow through us as we engage in the work He has set before us. God desires for us to emulate Christ and to exceed the works He performed. Did Christ heal the sick, cleanse lepers, and raise the dead? (Matthew 10:8). We are called to do the same — and even greater works — empowered by the same Spirit that sent Him.

However, many of us find ourselves hindered by doubt, fear, and unbelief. Jesus emphasizes the importance of faith: "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me." The Greek word for "believe" here is pisteuo — meaning to have faith in Jesus and to entrust our spiritual well-being to Him. This living faith is crucial; without it, we may struggle to witness God's transformative work in our lives, families, ministries, and workplaces.

Unfortunately, our lack of trust has led to a complacency where we settle for less than what God expects from us. Jesus assures us: "Greater works than these shall you do." While we cannot replicate His sacrifice on the Cross, we are called to be extensions of His love and grace. Some may mistakenly believe that we are incapable of performing the works of Christ — but we must remember His command to "occupy until He comes" (Luke 19:13).

The Lord has graciously provided us with an open check — an unqualified invitation to use His name to ask for anything in alignment with His will. However, we must be cautious not to ask amiss (James 4:3). Faith is a key factor in this equation; we must believe in His promises, including His assurance to empower us for greater works.

Consider this: while Christ healed with the hem of His garment, Peter healed with his shadow (Acts 5:15), and Paul performed miracles through handkerchiefs that had touched him (Acts 19:12). God has not changed — and neither has His power.

Let us embrace our calling with renewed faith and commitment, believing that God can still work wonders through us today.

"Lord, increase my faith and remove every trace of doubt and unbelief. Let Your power flow through me so that greater works may be done in Your name, to the glory of the Father. In Jesus' name. Amen."
